We’ve all heard the phrase, “You never get a second chance to make first impressions.” Nowhere is that more true than online.
In person, if you don’t put your best foot forward, you affect only that one instance, that one chance encounter. (Unless, of course, you get snapped by PeopleOfWalmart.com, as seen in this picture.) Online, you’re affecting relationships en masse, every time someone new encounters your website…
Your website is where potential customers get their first impressions of you.
You’re basically out there 24/7, “meeting” new people. And most people will check you out online before they check you out in person. It’s simply how we, as a society, operate now.
Consider that, currently, one in five couples meet online. Now, venture a guess as to how many people meet companies online…
…When you start thinking about those kinds of numbers, the importance of those great first impressions is clear. Thus, it may very well be time to update your website.
There’s a competition between “you never get a second chance to make a first impression” versus “the perfect is the enemy of the good.” You really have to find a balance between the two.
Don’t let your desire for perfection result in inaction. Instead, revise pieces of your website in small increments…and keep on changing.
So I’m curious, are you "behind the online eight ball" too? What updates are you embracing—and ignoring—in order to grow your business and make those outstanding first impressions? Spill it below, so we all know!
